Last evening I had the privilege of seeing democracy in action. Eighty-plus folks of all ages and political backgrounds, many ex-military, came together to voice their outrage over the noise inflicted upon our Bench community by F-15 fighter jets. We also learned of studies to bring these aircraft back, as well as F-35’s with a noise level four times that of the F-15’s. This is simply incompatible with a residential community.
Many at the meeting expressed the obvious solution of sending the F-15’s and F-35’s to Mountain Home, should they be based in Idaho. It was explained to us by an Air National Guard commander present that the National Guard uses the Boise Airport and the Air Force uses the Mountain Home field, but there are instances in other states of both using the same field. One stumbling block is that many Guardsmen live in Boise and want to neither live in nor commute to Mountain Home.
Many at the meeting felt that their community is being sold out by politicians who already have endorsed bringing in the F-15’s, without seeking public input. We hope this will change, now that the people have their say.
