To the firefighters from a squadron that we were told came from Boise. I am a resident of Columbus, Mont., and last Saturday a runaway brush fire along the Yellowstone River threatened my home and many others in a very fast-paced fire driven by high winds. Our area is largely wooded, hilly with lots of dry grass right now. We watched helplessly as this fire threatened everything we owned.
Firefighting aircraft showed up from Boise. I watched as these planes dove below the surrounding hills to extinguish the flames and give our firefighters on the ground a chance to suppress it. Along with our helicopters they were finally able to bring it under control and most of us were able to return to our homes. Without these guys we likely could have lost it all. Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to our Idaho neighbors for their skill and devotion to fighting fire. From all of us in Columbus, thank you.
