The Idaho Fish and Game Commission on Thursday extended wolf hunting season to March 31 in all zones that have not reached their harvest limits.

Other wolf hunting rules did not change.

The seasons will be extended to March 31 unless harvest limits are reached in the Panhandle, Palouse-Hells Canyon, Selway, Middle Fork, Salmon, Southern, and South Idaho zones.

Those zones were scheduled to close Dec. 31.

The seasons already were set to close March 31 in the Lolo and Sawtooth zones.

As of Thursday, the statewide harvest was 110, half the statewide limit of 220.

Wolf seasons already have closed in the Dworshak-Elk City wolf zone in north Idaho, the McCall-Weiser zone in west central Idaho, and the Upper Snake zone in eastern Idaho because the each zone reached its harvest limit.

Three other zones are nearing their harvest limits. The Palouse-Hells Canyon zone is two short of its limit of five wolves; the Southern Mountains has three of 10-wolf limit remaining; and the Middle Fork zone has four of its 17-wolf limit remaining.

Wolf hunters should check the harvest limit in the wolf hunting zones before they hunt. To find out whether a zone is open, call (877) 872-3190 or go to fishandgame.idaho.gov/ and click on "Wolf Harvest Information" on the home page.

Hunters are required to report a wolf kill within 24 hours of harvesting, and they must present the hide and skull to a Fish and Game conservation officer or regional office within five days.
