The public is invited to join Gov. Butch Otter and First Lady Lori Otter at the ceremonial lighting of the capitol Christmas tree at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30 in Boise.

The event will be at the corner of Bannock Street and Capitol Boulevard. The masters of ceremonies will be radio personalities Tracy Mitchell and Margo Vaughn from 107.1 FM K-Hits.

Participants who bring a can of food to benefit the Idaho Food Bank will receive a book from Scholastic Books.

“We are looking forward to celebrating the arrival of the holidays with song, good cheer, and charitable giving for those in need,” Governor Otter said in a press release. “This will be a fun evening for family and friends to come together for fellowship and goodwill.”

The 25th Army Band will play seasonal music starting at 5:30 p.m., and that will be followed by songs from the fourth- and fifth- grade Honor Choir at Cecil D. Andrus Elementary School in Meridian.

After a countdown, the Otters' eldest granddaughter, Ruby, will flip a switch that lights the tree. Refreshments will be provided, including coffee from Treasure Valley Moxie Java stores, and cookies and hot cider from Fred Meyer.
