An 82-year-old Boise woman who was pulled out of her bedroom window by an Ada County Sheriff's deputy and sergeant early Wednesday has died, according to Boise fire officials.
Esther H. Svalina, 82, passed away shortly after noon on Thursday at a Boise hospital.
Emergency personnel responded to the fire at a home in the 5300 block of S. Missoula Way at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. Ada County sheriff's Deputy Carl Olson and Sgt. Joe Wright pulled Svalina out of her house through a broken window.
Svalina was not breathing, so the deputies began CPR immediately.
Boise fire investigators believe the fire started in the family room. It has been listed as "undetermined" because much of the room collapsed into the home's crawl space; not enough evidence remained to determine the exact cause of the fire.
A male family member who lived with Svalina — who police said is either her grandson or her nephew — was safely evacuated from the house by Wright and Olson.
