Adolfo Estrada-Mora, 21, Alberto Carlos Macias, 33, and Enrique Manuel Ruiz Soto, 44 — all listed as California residents — are being held in the Ada County Jail on felony charges of trafficking in methamphetamine after they were arrested Thursday afternoon.

U.S. Immigration officials also are investigating if Estrada-Mora and Macias are in the country legally, according to Ada County Sheriff’s reports.

Soto and Macias were arrested following a traffic stop on Interstate 84 Thursday afternoon, and Estrada-Mora was arrested outside a hotel on Vista Avenue a short time later. Ada County Sheriff’s officials say Estrada-Mora was holding about 2 pounds of methamphetamine when he was arrested.

About 3:40 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 84 just west of Cole Road, a sheriff’s deputy pulled over a car after the deputy noticed the driver going under the speed limit and failing to use a turn signal to change lanes.

During the traffic stop, a K-9 drug dog detected that drugs had been in the car previously, according to sheriff's reports.

Deputies discovered some other undisclosed evidence that the men were staying at a hotel near Vista Avenue and may have been involved in drug trafficking, sheriff’s spokeswoman Andrea Dearden said.

That’s when deputies went to the hotel and found Estrada-Mora standing outside, holding a bag with the meth inside. All three men were booked into the Ada County Jail, where they will be held at least until Monday afternoon, when they are scheduled to make their first court appearance.

Deputies, who seized an undisclosed amount of cash during the arrest, estimate the street value of the methamphetamine to be as much as $150,000.

Detectives say they have evidence the three men drove up from California with the intent to sell the methamphetamine in Ada County.

The charge of trafficking methamphetamine is punishable by up to life in prison.
