The medical condition a 4-year-old boy who almost drowned after wandering away from his family and going in the water at Eagle Island State Park on Wednesday was upgraded from critical to stable Friday at St. Luke's Children's Hospital. The family has asked for privacy but expressed thanks to the people who helped save the boy's life by administering CPR and caring for the child after his rescue, Saint Luke's officials said Friday.
On Wednesday, the boy had wandered away from his family and was found floating in the water 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officials said the child could have been in the water for about five minutes.
The child's mother and grandmother were packing their belongings to leave when the child wandered off. Another child who was swimming stepped on the toddler floating and alerted the boy's aunt, a 12-year-old girl who pulled him out of the water. Other adults started CPR, which was continued by deputies and Ada County Paramedics.
