Former Idaho Attorney General Larry EchoHawk took the oath of office Friday as the Obama Administration's Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs.
The ceremony took place before an estimated crowd of 300 that included family members, tribal representatives, and Interior and other federal employees in Washington D.C.
EchoHawk, 60, will run the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The Brigham Young University law professor and member of the Pawnee Tribe was Idaho attorney general in 1991-95 and the Democratic nominee for governor in 1994.
