A Caldwell man who was in a Jan. 3 car crash that killed two people near the Nevada border has been upgraded to fair condition, a Boise hospital spokeswoman said Monday.
Russell Ward, 67, was critically injured in the crash on Idaho 51, about seven miles north of the Duck Valley Indian Reservation. He was taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.
Audrey Smith, 14, of Eureka, Nev., was a passenger in Ward's vehicle. She was transported to Saint Al's; her condition has not been released because she is a minor.
Chelsea Carter, 21, of Spring Creek, Nev., and Cade Cripps, 20, of Elko, Nev., were killed in the crash.
Crash investigators said Carter was going north on Idaho 51 just after 11 a.m. Jan. 3, when she lost control of her vehicle on the icy road. The car slid into the southbound lanes and was hit by the vehicle driven by Ward.
