Students at a Mountain Home elementary school got the day off due to a power outage believed to have been caused by a squirrel.
The custodian at North Elementary School, 290 East 12 North Street, arrived to a dark building at 6 a.m. Monday, according to Mountain Home School superintendent Tim W. McMurtrey.
McMurtrey said Idaho Power officials dispatched to investigate the outage believe a squirrel damaged a cable, which caused a short in the power line. When Idaho Power tried to re-set the short, about 5 feet of line was burned.
The school superintendent said the line has been fixed, and school classes will resume at their normal time Tuesday morning.
