Longtime local radio hosts Jon Duane and Chris Kelly are off the air.
"The Jon & Chris Show" said its goodbyes during a farewell program Monday on "63 KIDO," which is 630 on the AM dial. The show has been replaced by Fox Sports programming.
Peak Broadcasting, which operates "63 KIDO," plans to announce a permanent replacement Jan. 5 - probably syndicated programming, according to Kevin Godwin, senior vice-president at Peak Broadcasting of Boise.
Duane and Kelly, whose show began airing for Peak in July 2007, were let go for financial reasons, Godwin said.
"It's just the economy," he said. "We're having to make some cutbacks going into 2009. It's unfortunate, because we really like Jon and Chris. I've known them a long time and they're really great people, and they're friends. It's hard. It's made me sick."
Duane and Kelly, who have broadcast together in the Boise market for more than a decade and a half, might fill in occasionally for Peak in the future. But they have no other immediate radio plans, Duane said.
Duane said that there were no hard feelings and that he felt "very good."
"I don't think we were surprised," Duane said. "I think if you look at any radio station in town, you're probably going to look at the bottom line being down 15 to 20 percent. It's pretty damn bleak right now."
