The Boise State football team's momentous upset of No. 17 Oregon on Saturday was one for the history books.
And that's where coach Chris Petersen wants it to stay.
The Broncos (3-0) are moving on and looking for ways to improve, Petersen said Sunday. He brushed aside any talk of the Broncos' newfound status as a Top 20 team or the Bowl Championship Series hype that's likely to follow them this season.
"It's game three," Petersen said, "and we've got so many things to work on that if we don't clean them up, we're going to get beat next week. It's that simple. I think our guys understand that. We've got to keep improving."
The Broncos, who beat a BCS-conference team on the road for the first time, have a mini-bye before opening WAC play against Louisiana Tech on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Bronco Stadium.
On Sunday, they jumped into the polls for the first time this year at No. 19 in The Associated Press Top 25 and No. 20 in the USA Today Coaches' Poll - the seventh straight year the Broncos have been ranked.
Plus, freshman quarterback Kellen Moore was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation's national offensive player of the week. Moore completed 25-of-37 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns with one interception (the stats were tweaked to fix a scoring error). He is seventh in the nation in pass efficiency.
The Broncos will practice Tuesday and Thursday before beginning game-week preparations for Louisiana Tech on Saturday.
Petersen will be watching for any signs of complacency.
"I do think we need to practice a little bit more efficiently," Petersen said. "If we do that, I think it will show up in games. It's one thing to get it. It's another thing to get it done."
The one area where Petersen will talk up the Oregon win is with recruits. Some of the Broncos' recruiting targets contacted coaches after the game and the coaches planned to make calls Sunday night.
"It's great for the program," Petersen said. "To play a team like Oregon and be able to win - a lot of people didn't expect that. Now maybe some guys will think maybe (Boise State) is the same type of program."
Oregon fell out of the AP poll but is No. 22 in the coaches' poll. Six teams from non-BCS conferences are ranked: BYU (11 AP, 11 coaches), Utah (17, 17), Boise State, East Carolina (23, NR), TCU (24, 23) and Fresno State (25, 24).
