A jury deadlocked Friday on whether a Canyon County commissioner knowingly broke the law when he carried a loaded handgun in his carry-on luggage through an airport security checkpoint.
Judge Thomas Watson declared a mistrial in the case against Commissioner David Ferdinand after jurors said they could not reach a unanimous decision, the Idaho Press-Tribune reported.
A second trial is planned.
Ferdinand, 59, a Nampa Republican, was cited with a misdemeanor after Boise police confiscated a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver at the airport on Feb. 28. Ferdinand was then allowed to board the flight.
