Thanksgiving day travelers could run into some slick roads in the Treasure and Magic valleys, according to the National Weather Service.
People flying out of the Boise Airport could see long lines, according to Boise Airport spokesperson Sean Briggs.
About a half-inch of rain fell overnight between Tuesday. A forecasted drop in temperatures to freezing could mean wet roads getting icy Wednesday and Thursday. The high Wednesday is predicted to be 35 degrees, but the high Thursday will dip down to 31 degrees, according to Joel Tannenholz, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Temperatures will continue to dip down below freezing, he said.
Never miss a local story.
“It’s going to be several days of subfreezing weather,” Tannenholz said.
The snow and freezing weather isn’t intimidating airport officials yet, Briggs said.
“We're prepared if it continues to snow,” he said.
Even so, holiday travelers should plan ahead if they want to get through security efficiently. Typically the airport sees up to 7,000 travelers in a day, but holidays bring up to around 11,000 travelers., Briggs said.
Passengers should show up two hours in advance of their flight, and know what items they can or cannot bring in a carry-on. They should keep an ear on what TSA officers are requesting and keep in communication with the airline they’re using, he said.
The cold, wet weather could be a boon for skiers and snowboarders. Bogus Basin got some welcome snow since Tuesday, seeing 6 inches fall, he said.
The precipitation is expected to continue, in the form of rain and snow, in the Boise area, through Thursday. That means Boise is under a winter weather advisory until Thanksgiving day around 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
