Gooding Democrat Donna Pence won’t seek a seventh term in the Idaho House in 2016.
“The responsibilities and the busy schedule of the Legislature, both in session and out, have made it difficult to spend time with family and especially grandchildren’s activities,” she said in a statement released by the state Democratic party.
More of the statement:
“Strong political headwinds in the Capitol often create more challenges for the people, businesses, and communities of our rural district. I have been proud to press for better educational opportunities, smarter business incentives, and for building our infrastructure. I have worked to help people understand that rural Idahoans have been forced to pay more for less, while wealthy, well-connected special interests have enjoyed special treatment and tax cuts.”
Pence currently serves as the House Minority Caucus chair. Party spokesman Dean Ferguson said there was one as-yet-unannounced Democrat interested in Pence’s District 26 seat and others might follow.
