North Carolina native, pro wrestling mogul tapped for Trump’s Cabinet

President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the United State’s federal agency in charge of helping small businesses get loans and government contracts is a North Carolina native from New Bern, a graduate of East Carolina University, and big-time donor to Trump’s charity and to Republican candidates. Linda McMahon, who twice unsuccessfully ran for U.S. Senate from Connecticut, grew a small, family-owned regional wrestling company with her husband Vince in the 1980s into the now-famous WWE or World Wrestling Entertainment Inc.

Pearl Harbor, Oakland fire tributes are stuck in the Senate, and spending bill could be next

Wednesday, it was symbolic resolutions on the Pearl Harbor anniversary and last week’s deadly Oakland warehouse fire. Thursday, it could be funding to keep the federal government open beyond Friday. So far, a few Senate Democrats have made good on their promise to block Senate business until Congress approves a permanent fix a permanent fix to a pension plan that more than 100,000 retired coal miners and their families depend on for health care.
