Do you remember the stories I had in 2012 and 2013 about the long-billed curlews that nest in the Area of Critical Environmental Concern on public lands north of Middleton?
Biologists at Boise State’s Intermountain Bird Observatory. attached satellite transmitters on the bird and followed their migration south to California and Mexico. They have continued to attach additional transmitters on curlews and keep interested observers up to date with its web page.
It reported Sept. 11 that Venus, one of its ACEC curlews, that died in May had been shot. The biologists said they know the cause of death after an investigation by the Idaho Fish and Game’s Wildlife Health Laboratory.
