Last year more than 700 children living in local Salvation Army shelters or receiving assistance from the shelters, got help from the community with their school supply list.
Donations are down this year, say Salvation Army staffers.
There's still time to help. Members of the community can drop off school supplies in the collection bins at any area Fred Meyer location. The deadline is Thursday, Aug. 21.
Suggested items include backpacks, #2 pencils, spiral notebooks, 8- or 24-count boxes of crayons, glue, glue sticks, full-size boxes of tissue, large three ring binders, markers, erasers, water color paint set, rulers, scissors, blue and black pens, folders with pockets, composition books, protractors and compasses.
