The Salmon River Road east of Riggins had been closed since late August due to the Tepee Springs Fire burning in the area.
But with conditions much improved, the road reopened at 6 a.m. Friday, one of a number of closures tied to Tepee Springs that are winding down.
All related emergency closures on U.S. Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service lands will be lifted at 6 a.m. Saturday, according to those agencies. Areas with restored access include Hard/Hazard Creek Road via. U.S. 95, all BLM parcels north of Smokey Boulder Road and other BLM parcels east of Riggins and south of the Salmon River.
Some remaining closures include French Creek Road between the Salmon River and Willow Creek Road, and Lake Creek Road. Areas in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest north of Salmon River Road will also still be closed, as will the Grangeville-Salmon River Road south of the Slate Creek junction.
Fire managers plan an open house from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Riggins Community Center to provide updates on the fire and its effects.
