Idaho State Police responded to the area of the Stage Stop on westbound Interstate 84 Friday after someone reported a car with front end damage driving away with a man behind the wheel who appeared incoherent and impaired, ISP spokeswoman Teresa Baker said.
Joshua McNair, 33, of Spokane Valley, Wash., was booked into the Canyon County jail on a felony charge of eluding officers and is still under investigation for driving under the influence, ISP reported in an evening news release.
A trooper pulled the gray Mercury Topaz over at milepost 52 east of Boise shortly before 12:30 p.m., Baker said. During the investigation, the man ran back to his vehicle and sped away about 12:50 p.m., according to the news release.
Six Valley law enforcement agencies assisted in the pursuit and apprehension, ISP reports. The chase reached speeds of about 100 mph before the car was stopped by a spike strip at milepost 27 in Caldwell about 1:07 p.m., Baker said.
The car lost control and crashed, but the driver continued to attempt to flee, ISP reports. Officers pinned the vehicle to prevent a continued pursuit, according to the news release.
McNair was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before he was taken to jail, Baker said.
The Ada and Canyon county sheriff's offices and police from Meridian, Nampa and Caldwell assisted ISP with the incident, according to the news release.
