An officer with the Meridian Police Department tried to pull over a speeding car driving without headlights and traveling in both lanes of traffic Sunday evening.
The driver acted like he was going to pull over near Fairview and Locust Grove streets, then sped away, reaching speeds of up to 80 mph, Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea said.
The driver, later identified as Jeffrey Don Williams, 31, was stopped after police deployed stop sticks at Pine and Linder roads.
Williams, whose hometown wasn’t listed in an arrest report, fled on foot along with passenger Margo Kavi Woodward, 21, of Boise. They were soon apprehended.
Police found heroin and methamphetamine in the car.
Both Williams and Woodward were charged with drug trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Williams was also charged with eluding police, driving without privileges and failure to provide auto insurance. He was also held on two warrants for failure to appear.
Woodward was charged additionally resisting or obstructing officers. She was also held on two warrants for failure to appear.
Both Williams and Woodward were taken to the Ada County Jail. They were scheduled to appear for arraignment Monday afternoon in Ada County Magistrate Court.
