Arturo Mendoza, 34, has been in the Canyon County Jail since February and was sentenced Thursday to prison.
Mendoza entered a guilty plea to two counts of aggravated battery in July in exchange for prosecutors dropping other charges. Prosecutors said he kidnapped and repeatedly beat an ex-girlfriend who had taken his cell phone.
Three more felony charges, of criminal solicitation to commit a crime, had been added in connection to letters he sent from jail allegedly aiming to discourage the victim from testifying against him.
The victim, a 26-year-old Caldwell woman, required surgery for a fractured thigh and knee, and had "multiple injuries all over her body," according to court documents. She told investigators Mendoza assaulted her with numerous items including a baseball bat, a wrench, a rake and a lit cigarette.
