A 39-year-old Caldwell driver is accused of colliding with a bicyclist near Nampa Saturday, then leaving the scene of the accident, according to the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office.
The bicyclist, identified as a 35-year-old Meridian woman, was taken to a Boise hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Maria Antonia Gonzalez was booked into the Canyon County Jail on one count of felony leaving the scene of an accident.
The sheriff’s office says a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle on Happy Valley Road near Nampa just after 10:30 a.m. Monday.
On Monday, investigators said they located the vehicle involved in the collision — a Ford Freestyle van — at a residence on Airport Road in Caldwell. The van was processed for evidence at the sheriff’s crime lab.
Detectives spoke to Gonzalez at the residence where the vehicle was found and brought her in for an interview. She was arrested.
“I am very proud of our officers and staff who worked non-stop in locating the person responsible for this terrible accident,” Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue said in a press release. “I also want to point out the importance of the witnesses in this case who not only assisted at the scene but were able to give our officers critical information which helped us immensely and we thank them for involvement. Our prayers go out to the victim and we hope for a very speedy recovery.”
Gonzalez is expected to be arraigned Tuesday.
