The Nampa 4-year-old who nearly drowned in a pond on his family’s property near the 100 block of State Street Tuesday night was still in critical condition Thursday morning, according to a St. Luke’s press release.
The boy, Drake Messer, had reportedly wandered into a decorative pond and was found unconscious in the water. Emergency respoonders were called to the scene around 8:50 p.m. and rushed the toddler to a Nampa hospital, Nampa police said. He later was moved to St. Luke’s in Boise.
The child’s mother issued a statement on behalf of the family, according to the hospital release.
“Our family would like to thank our friends and members of our community for their wonderful expressions of sympathy and their prayers during this difficult time,” Kimberly Messer said in the statement. “We also greatly appreciate the around-the-clock care Drake is receiving from the medical staff at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital.”
