Zoo Boise is set to open several new South American exhibits Sunday for Zoo Daze, its biggest event of the summer.
The exhibits feature five new South American animals: the capybara, the world’s largest rodent; Inca tern; nine-banded armadillo; blue-gray tanager and red-capped cardinal.
The rookies will join popular veterans such as penguins, cavies and coatis, according to a zoo news release.
The event will feature games, entertainment, costumed characters, Butterflies in Bloom, wallaby joeys, face painting and more fun. Everyone who attends Zoo Daze can enter a drawing to name one of the capybaras.
Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (age 62+), $7 for children (ages 3-11), and free for annual pass-holders, as well as children age 2 and under.
