Boise fire crews responded shortly after 7 a.m. to the fire in a garage at a home in the 5000 block of Tecoma Place.
Firefighters contained the fire and smoke damage to the garage and possibly the house’s attic. But the contents of the garage — including an SUV — are a complete loss, said Boise Fire Battalion Chief Steve Rasulo.
One person was in the home, Rasulo said. He told firefighters that he heard a popping noise in his garage and opened the door. Seeing smoke, he called 911 and left the home.
A second alarm was called when firefighters arrived and found flames coming from the garage, and the occupant reported that there was ammunition inside. But additional crews were turned away after firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire.
Fire crews cut a hole in the roof during their efforts to quash the flames. Ammunition in the garage didn’t cause any issues, Rasulo said.
The resident of the home declined assistance from the Red Cross.
Investigators don’t know the cause of the fire yet.
