Jose Castro faces up to 15 years in prison if he is convicted of biting off his girlfriend's ear Saturday morning.
Caldwell Police officer Ed Adams reported that he responded to a report at 2:35 a.m. Saturday by the woman's father, who said he heard screaming and saw Castro leave his daughter's bedroom and walk across the road to Castro's mother's house.
When Adams arrived, according to his statement, he found the woman in the front yard holding the right side of her head. She told him Castro "had bitten off her ear when they were involved in a relationship argument," according to the statement.
"It was my observation that (the victim's) right ear was missing and she was bleeding," Adams wrote in his statement. "I later located the bitten-off piece of ear in a bedroom in the residence."
Officers later found Castro and arrested him, according to Adams' statement.
Castro, 31, is in the Canyon County Jail, charged with aggravated battery. The maximum penalty for the charge is 15 years in prison.
The victim was treated at St. Alphonsus in Boise.
