Steve Burns has been sworn in as the new chairman of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the accrediting body for the top zoos and aquariums in the United States and seven other countries.
Steve Burns has been director of Zoo Boise since 2001. He’s been executive director of Friends of Zoo Boise since 1997.
The mission of the nonprofit Association of Zoos and Aquariums is to advance conservation, animal welfare, education, science, and recreation at zoos and aquariums.
“Steve’s leadership skills, extensive experience and tremendous passion for wildlife conservation will undoubtedly make him a strong asset to AZA-accredited aquariums and zoos as he leads the AZA Board of Directors and encourages all of us to continue working hard to make a positive impact on the world’s wildlife species,” AZA President and CEO Jim Maddy said in a press release.
Burns is one of four executive officers on the 13-member board.
