This weekend, the annual Hyde Park Street Fair welcomes hundreds of Boiseans and, of course, their dogs. Denise Murschel moved to Boise six years ago, and she took her dogs to the fair for the third time.
The driver of a Porsche Boxster Spyder injured eight bystanders after losing control of the car at about 11:00 a.m. in Boise. The car veered into a crowd watching other cars do similar burnouts from the sidewalk along Overland Road. The severity of injuries was not available. An informal, public car show takes place each Saturday in a nearby parking lot.
An official from Guinness World Records confirmed 99 people competed in a bubble soccer match on Boise State's blue turf at Albertsons Stadium Saturday, Sept. 15, 2017. Partners in the Eagle, Idaho based Internet company ClickFunnels hoped to set a record and produce a viral video for social media entrepreneurs who use the new marketing tool for blogs, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook accounts.
Boise teen Jorge Ibanez-Ruiz was diagnosed with bone cancer in June. His parents have asked the public to send postcards for Jorge's 15th birthday on Sept. 13, and the boy has received good wishes from all over the world.
Dozens of volunteers and veterans ran the Flag of Honor, bearing the names of every first responder and citizen killed in the 9/11 attacks in 2001, from Discovery Park to Caldwell Veterans Memorial Hall, 40 miles in all. The Moving Tribute started at 8:46 a.m., the time Flight 11 struck the North Tower. The run was sponsored by Mission43, a partnership that helps veterans have a successful transition after leaving the service.
"While trying to video a female Chinook salmon digging her nest for spawning (at Boise's MK Nature Center), I was surprised to see this intruder!" wrote wildlife educator Sara Focht. "Mink are playful and cute, but fearless. They will go after prey much larger than themselves. Watch until the end to see if the mink was successful at hunting or not."
