The beer industry has a $1.2 billion economic impact on Idaho, according to a report from the Beer Institute and National Beer Wholesalers Association.
The industry’s direct economic impact of $459 million comes mostly from beer retail and wholesale, including more than 4,600 jobs in those areas, the report said.
Beer brewing supports 278 jobs in Idaho, totaling about $10 million in wages, the report said.
The rest of the economic impact from beer in Idaho comes from other jobs, wages and taxes related to beer brewing, wholesale and retail.
The report is based on a study by economics firm John Dunham & Associates, using data collected from private companies as well as from Dun & Bradstreet, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
The study found the U.S. beer industry had a national economic impact of $253 billion.
