Did 'returning' terrorists become extremists in Guantanamo?

One of the men listed in a Pentagon report naming former Guantanamo detainees who'd returned to the battlefield told McClatchy last year that he was a local police chief in Afghanistan when he was arrested and became a radical Islamist only during his detention.
