The Idaho Public Charter School Commission issued two more notices of defect against Nampa Classical Academy Monday, expressing frustration that the school has defied some of its directives.
NCA founder Mike Moffett said the school is not using primary religious texts now, but will in the future as called for in its classical curriculum.
“We’re not teaching what to believe,” Moffett said after the meeting.
State officials say using the Bible and other religious documents violates the state constitution, but school leaders disagree with that interpretation of the constitution and have filed suit against the charter commission and other state leaders.
That suit is pending in federal court, and meanwhile the charter commission is moving forward with a process that could ultimately lead to revocation of the school’s charter. That process could take up to a year, state Charter Schools Program Manager Tamara Baysinger said.
