If you have prescription drugs or mercury you need to dispose of, Canyon County communities are offering a safe way to do that this weekend.
County residents can drop off old prescription drugs and items with mercury in them such as thermometers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of O’Connor Field House, 2207 Blaine St., Caldwell.
A separate drop-off day for small businesses and schools is from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday in the same parking lot.
Acceptable mercury items for drop-off include: glass thermometers, thermostats, small medical equipment, school supplies, fluorescent lights and any other contained collection people might have in their homes. All breakable items or liquid mercury should be brought in a plastic container to prevent spills.
Old prescription drugs and over the counter drugs will be accepted, as well as any other drugs. No personal information will be required and no questions will be asked.
Event organizers will not accept unsecured substances, large medical equipment or other household hazardous waste.
Participating agencies include the cities of Caldwell and Nampa, Canyon County, Southwest District Health, Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, Idaho Department of Health and Welfare’s Regional Advisory Committee, Canyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Nampa and Caldwell police and fire departments.
