The whistleblower lawsuit former Idaho Transportation Director Pam Lowe filed Friday is just first round of her legal action against the state, said Erika Birch, Lowe's attorney.

The state has until early next week to respond to Lowe's tort claim filed in August. If the state does not respond, Birch intends to file additional claims in 4th District Court late next week.

The ITD board fired Lowe July 16.

Lowe claims the firing was improper and alleges she was pressured not to trim a $50 million highway contract awarded to URS Corp. and CH2M Hill, political supporters of Gov. Butch Otter and Senate Transportation Chairman John McGee.
