Ada County sheriff's Deputy Carl Olson and Sgt. Joe Wright pulled a woman in her 80s out of her Southwest Boise home through a broken window.

The woman was not breathing, so the deputies began CPR immediately. Paramedics arrived moments later and eventually revived the woman. The woman's medical condition was not available late Wednesday, but she was still in the hospital.

Olson and the woman's adult grandson, who was also in the home at the time, were treated for smoke inhalation and released from the hospital Wednesday morning.

Ada County sheriff's Sgt. Pat Calley said Wright and Olson took "heroic measures" to save the woman and her grandson from the burning structure.

"They went in there without ever hesitating," Calley said. "They went right to work. They gave (the woman) a chance and a hope."

Boise fire crews were sent to the home on Missoula Way about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Olson, who arrived first, went inside the home and found the woman's grandson looking for her. Olson got the grandson out and was joined by Wright. They got out of the smoke-filled home, went around the outside to the woman's bedroom and pulled her out through a broken window, according to sheriff's reports.

Boise fire investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire, which started in a family room with a fireplace. One side of the home was demolished by fire and the rest of the house sustained heavy smoke damage.
