The Meridian Solid Waste Advisory Committee, the Meridian City Council and Sanitary Services Co. will present their Environment at Work Awards at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Meridian City Hall, 33 East Broadway Ave.

The presentation will be made during a special meeting of the Meridian City Council.

The awards, which recognizes outstanding recycling initiatives, will be presented to Pro-Build, a local lumber yard, and Threw the Outdoors, a pre-demolition company that keeps reusable building and landscape materials out of landfills.

In the last year, Pro-Build recycled 145,545 pounds of materials and reduced waste costs by 76 percent, a savings of $13,5987.38.

In the last two years, Threw the Outdoors salvaged 320 semi trailers worth of materials from 60 area properties.
