The Andy Fire, located about 9 miles northeast of Garden Valley within the Boise National Forest, is coming close to containment, officials said Monday. The fire, which was first reported by Scott Mountain Lookout on Wednesday evening, has burned about 15 acres and doesn't threaten any structures.
The fire is burning in a steep canyon section of the East Fork of Anderson Creek containing thick brush and dense stringers of conifer trees. At the end of the day Sunday, the fire was 73 percent contained and would likely be contained by Tuesday, officials said.
Fire fighting resources on Monday included two, 20-person Hotshot crews, one light- and one medium-lift helicopter. The Type 3 Incident Team currently managing the fire will turn responsibility back over to the Boise National Forest Emmett Ranger District at 6 p.m. Monday. The medium-lift helicopter may still be taking water from the South Fork Payette River near Danskin Station. People in the area are asked to use caution. The river is open to rafting.
