Orlando Figueroa

Orlando Figueroa, 30, Boise is charged with felony aggravated battery after Boise police say he purposefully backed his car over the feet of a woman Wednesday afternoon.

Boise police were called to the 2500 block of Marlette Lane, near the Broadway Avenue/Federal Way neighborhood, just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to investigate.

Witnesses told police that a driver, later identified as Figueroa, was driving on Marlette Lane when his car bumped into a child playing in the street.

Police say Figueroa got out of the car to check if the child was OK when his mother came outside and began arguing with the driver. Witnesses say a verbal argument broke out between the two which ended when Figueroa got into his car and purposefully backed over the woman’s foot — reportedly knocking her to the ground — before driving away.

The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, according to reports. The child who was bumped earlier did not appear to be injured.

Police pulled over Figueroa a short distance away and arrested him. He is also charged with a probation violation in connection with a 2005 conviction for aggravated assault, according to court records.

Figueroa will make his initial court appearance later Thursday. The charge of felony aggravated battery is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
