Gem State Kiwanis recently awarded scholarships to two Capital High School Senior Key Club members: Sandra Borak plans to attend Boise State University this fall and Molly Loucks will enroll at the University of Idaho. Both students were awarded the scholarships based on their years of outstanding Key Club service and scholastic achievements.
Sam Swanson, Boise, has been selected to receive a 2009 Presidential Scholarship from Montana State University. Recipients receive an annual award stipend of $2,500 plus a full-tuition waiver. The scholarship, valued at more than $70,000, is renewable for four years based on maintaining superior academic standing at MSU. A graduate of Boise High School, Swanson plans to major in biology at MSU.
The Idaho Community Foundation has honored two retiring directors, Irv Littman, Boise, and Ralph Hartwell, Idaho Falls, for their years of service to the statewide charity.
Littman has served as a board member for the Nature Conservancy of Idaho, Boise Contemporary Theater, Boise Art Museum, Bogus Basin Recreational Association and Idaho Humanities Council.
Hartwell is founder of The Hartwell Corp., an independent insurance agency with offices in Idaho Falls and Caldwell. He is past board president of the Idaho Falls Symphony Society, a former board member of Associated General Contractors of Idaho, and serves on the Idaho Lottery Commission.
The Idaho Community Foundation is a statewide nonprofit organization composed of more than 400 individual funds, pooled together for efficient management.
William Joseph Jett, a 2009 graduate of Vallivue High School and the son of Steven and Janalyn Jett of Greenleaf, was awarded one of six Idaho Association of Counties scholarships for the 2009-2010 school year. Jett, who plans to attend Idaho State University to become a physician assistant, will receive $800 to help pay for his college education.
The IAC Scholarship Fund was created to provide scholarships to children and grandchildren of county elected officials, and children of county employees who attend college in Idaho. County elected officials and employees contribute to the fund through personal donations and fundraising efforts.
