Boise Mayor David Bieter will honor three young women on Wednesday, Earth Day, with an EnviroGuard Youth Mini Grant for their commitment to the environment and for inspiring others to help make Boise a more sustainable community.

East Junior High students Ashlyn Tu-Tygrs, Alex Ries and Samantha Woods organized the collection of 2,000 pounds of plastic shopping bags at more than a dozen Boise elementary schools.

The 2,000 pounds of plastic compressed into two five-feet tall bricks will be on display at the event at 1:30 p.m. at Shadow Hills Elementary School, 8301 W.Sloan Street.
