The message -- “Beware of Dogma” -- is brief, but the billboard on Fairview Avenue near Maple Grove Road is a big way to “reach the unmassed masses,” says the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
The billboard features a stained-glass window motif and the foundation’s name and Web site.
The foundation placed the billboard on Fairview with help from the Humanists of Idaho, Boise State Secular Student Alliance, Non-Theist Meetup group and Social Idaho Atheists. It will remain on Fairview for two months, according to a press release.
The Freedom From Religion Foundation, a state/church separation watchdog, is the nation’s largest atheist and agnostic association, with more than 13,600 members. It launched its billboard campaign in 2007, placing religion-free messages in 15 states.
“We want there to be an alternative to all that religion on the roadsides,” co-president Dan Barker said in the release.
