The inside east- and westbound lanes of I-84 between the Orchard Street and Vista Avenue interchanges will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 14, through early morning Thursday, Jan. 15, as part of the Idaho Transportation Department's New York Canal project.

Weather permitting, the closure will be from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday while concrete is poured for a new bridge deck over the New York Canal.

ITD is widening the bridge to prepare for future improvements to the Orchard Street Interchange and I-84. The speed limit is 55 mph and highway shoulders are restricted between Orchard and Vista. ITD advises motorists to be aware of workers and equipment in the area.

The bridge-widening project is expected to be complete in Spring 2009.

The project is part of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle GARVEE bonds to expedite interstate improvements.
