Idaho Governor Butch Otter issued a disaster declaration Thursday for Benewah County, where build-up of ice on the St. Joe River has caused concern about potential flooding of the area when temperatures warm up.

Disaster funds will be used to break up the ice on the St. Joe to prevent flooding in communities such as St. Maries, threatening bridges, roads, private residences, municipal water supplies, the municipal sewage lagoon and farmlands.
