Miss Mary Jane: She may be in denial, but at least she's not on her cell phone

Greetings Dear Readers! Miss Mary Jane has yet to turn her calendar to December. Maybe she will simply boycott the idea. Leave it on November and hope for the best. Can you believe that it’s almost Christmas? Holy smokes ... where does the time go?

MMJ wonders if you, too, are simply not ready, not up for it, ignoring it as best you can? Everyone she’s talked to lately isn't ready for Christmas. Too much has happened over the last year, it seems, for folks to focus on fantasy and frivolity just yet.

So why don’t we just take a little trip instead?

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous of late, and the walks in the Foothills have been beyond wonderful. MMJ highly encourages everyone to get outside at least once a day and enjoy this glorious December sunshine we've been experiencing.

No matter what the weather, MMJ finds there's nothing as uplifting as taking the time to bond each day with Mother Nature. It really does make you happy. And it might be the perfect medicine for what is ailing many of us right about now. A nice walk is a chance to reflect, to put your problems in perspective, to live in the now. After all, “The trouble with worrying so much about your security in the future is that you feel so insecure in the present.” This quote by Harlan Miller is one of my editor's favorites, and it's the perfect reminder about the importance of finding the joy in each day.

But a word of forewarning. We’ve talked about this before, and MMJ regrets that she will have to talk to you again ... but .. if you are walking far off the beaten path, the birds are chirping, the sun is shining .. and if you are yackety yakking on your blasted cell phone, Miss Mary Jane will be forced to give you "The Look." Leave it in your car. Take some time for yourself and look around at the beauty that surrounds you. It’s really remarkable, and how can you notice it -- or have any chance for self-reflection -- if your phone is glued to your ear?

Ta Ta for now. Miss Mary Jane reminds you to please sit up straight and mind your manners. Your back will thank you one of these days.

P.S. A great big MMJ shout out to some of my favorite gals: Blaze, Reno Time and Gayl. Thank you for making my recent transition fun, supportive and filled with love. You are simply the best!
