A unique fall event is planned by the Nampa Woman's Century Club, to raise money for the Valley Crisis Center, a shelter for victims of domestic abuse.
Chairwoman LaJean Botimer says that Art in the Afternoon will offer a display and sale of the paintings by local artist Vickie Wade and some of her students. It will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at 2014 Silver Creek in the Fall River subdivision, off Lake Lowell Avenue, west of Midland Boulevard. The show and sale are being held in a new home built by Vickie's husband, Jeff, the owner of Precision Builders.
LaJean said that besides a display of beautiful realistic and romantic artwork, there will be homemade refreshments, punch and coffee, thanks to the hospitality committee of D'Lone Miller and Wynona Foscher. There will be a raffle for one of Vickie's original oil paintings. With the tax-deductible donation of $5, each attendee will get a raffle ticket; you need not be present to win. Additional raffle tickets may be purchased for $1 each or six for $5, at the door or from Century Club members.
Vickie, a longtime art teacher, said one of her works again has been selected by St. Luke's Hospital for its Christmas cards. Her painting has little boys wearing Boise State shirts playing ball. I have to get two boxes - my husband is such a Bronco fan!
GET READY FOR 'CHOCOLATE AFFAIR' IN NAMPA
That luscious fundraiser that offers chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate is scheduled by the Soroptimist Club for Nov 7-8 at the Nampa Civic Center.
The festive event raises money for good causes, including the Woman's Opportunity Award for single mothers to continue their education.
Applications for this award will be available at the Silent Auction table, according to Kathy Headley, former chairwoman, past president and current district director for the Rocky Mountain Region. For more information, call her at 880-7249.
Kathy helped create the huge gift basket for the raffle, which is a "Pamper Yourself" collection of gifts, including chocolate (of course), gift certificates, soaps, piano mat for kids, blankets, pretty glasses, bath salts and much more.
The Soroptimist president this year is Lynn Wyrick, and Dorothy Cox is the chairman for the Chocolate Affair. About 100 vendors will on hand.
WEDDING BELLS RINGING FOR BOON KIDS
I was just chatting with one very excited mom. Travel agent Gerry Boone, is expecting a visit this weekend from her daughter, Wendy Wheeler, and her new husband, Kelly Wheeler, from Whitefish, Mont. Wendy wanted to introduce her hubby to Gerry and her husband, Dan Boone, before taking off onNov. 1 on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera.
And if one wedding wasn't enough for the family, Gerry's son Chip Watson just got married in the Lake Tahoe resort, to his lady love, Felicia. They will be joining the Wheelers on the cruise.
