The Boise City Department of Arts and History has announced its 2009 grant recipients.
The city's funding supports general operations for local arts organizations, as well as specific projects and individual cultural initiatives.

CULTURAL INITIATIVES
TriCA, the Treasure Valley Institute for Children's Arts, received $1,500 for its "Dancing through Schools" program.
Wright Foot Forward received $1,200 to bring junior-high school students together with special needs children to create a performance for the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games closing ceremonies.
$1,000 GRANTS
Morgan Dethman-Corthell for "Stereo Main Street," a public art piece, enamel on steel stereographs, that represent historic Boise scenes. Location to be determined.
Grant Olsen for his public art piece "Wise Up Gunman" on the Hitchcock Building, 11th and Idaho streets.
Cast-paper artist Earl Swope for "Arborglyph Grove," casts of aspen trunks carved by Basque and other immigrant sheepherders in Idaho. Will be exhibited at College of Idaho and a Boise location to be determined.
Darkwood Consort, a viola and bass clarinet duo, for a tour of works that features compositions by Jim Cockey and Johann Helton.
Lisa Lechner and Tracy Sunderland will bring members of the international Siti Company to Boise in the summer of 2009 to conduct a five-day master class workshop in the viewpoints and Suzuki training methods for local performing artists and students.
Big Tree Arts, for "LoudWriter Youth Poetry Workshop," a youth-oriented performance poetry program in Idaho that includes educational outreach, monthly performance poetry workshop for teens and an all-age slam.
$800 GRANTS
Drop Dance Collective received $800 for its Nov. 9 performance with dancer Erin Cunningham.
Idaho Dance Theatre received $800 for a collaboration with former Idaho Dance Theatre dancer Jennifer Freeman for the winter 2009 performance.
$500 GRANTS
French bossa nova guitarist Elisabeth Blin received $500 for a multi-media lecture series about Brazilian music.
Okhee Chang received $500 for a Korean dance cultural exchange.
