Idaho Gov. Butch Otter underwent required rotator cuff surgery on his left shoulder Thursday at Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Hospital in Boise.
The operation was necessary to repair an injury that occurred recently while Otter was clearing brush on his ranch near Star.
His orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Michael J. Curtin of Intermountain Orthopaedics in Boise, said Otter likely will need eight to 10 weeks of rehabilitation and physical therapy after today’s operation. He will be working at home for a few days, but the procedure will have no impact on his ability to perform any of his duties as governor.
A light general anesthesia, along with a local “block” on his left shoulder, was used for the arthroscopic surgery. Lt. Gov. Brad Little was briefed and available throughout the procedure.
