Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich is going to bat for Lt. Gov. Jim Risch, urging Idahoans to donate to Risch's Senate campaign.
In a letter, Gingrich said electing Risch is crucial to stopping Democrats from gaining a filibuster-proof 60 seat majority in the Senate. Gingrich also repeats Risch's controversial claim that he cut taxes by $200 million, though economists say the tax cut was accompanied by a nearly identical increase in sales tax.
Gingrich promised people who donate $75 or more a hardback copy of his latest novel, "Days of Infamy."
Risch, a Republican, is running against Democrat Larry LaRocco and three other candidates for the seat of retiring Sen. Larry Craig.
