Boise has nearly 30 percent fewer flights than it had at its prerecession peak, but that's still more than 50 flights a day for passengers such as Tom Hegna, a Phoenix resident. Hegna was on his way to Troy, Mich., on Thursday. An author and 25-year veteran of the insurance industry, he makes five to eight flights per week and has flown more than 2 million miles in his career. "I spend more nights in a hotel than at home," he said. "My truck spends more time in an airport parking garage than in my garage."

Wheels up: Boise pushes for airport comeback

Negotiations are underway to land more flights and destinations. The good news? Idaho's biggest airport has 'good bones' to build on.
