Eagle volleyball survives, advances to semis

The Eagle High volleyball team won two matches Friday to advance to a 5A state semifinal at Hillcrest High in Idaho Falls. The double-elimination tournament resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday. Eagle takes on Idaho Falls in a semifinal at noon.

Eagle, the two-time defending state champion, began tournament play with a 3-0 win over Lewiston. The Mustangs had their hands full in their second match before rallying from an 0-2 deficit to defeat Highland in five sets.

"We're excited," Eagle coach Paul Schwager said. "Our senior leadership has put us in position to defend our state title."

Rocky Mountain, Timberline, Highland and Coeur d'Alene also remain in title contention.

4A

District Three rivals Skyview and Bishop Kelly remain in the state title hunt at Skyline High in Idaho Falls. The Hawks and Knights square off in a loser-out match at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Bonneville and Sandpoint each won twice Friday to advance to Saturday's noon semifinal. Rigby and Century also made it to the final day of the double-elimination tournament.

3A

Fruitland won once and lost once Friday at Bonneville High in Idaho Falls. The Grizzlies play Snake River in a loser-out match at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Kimberly and defending state champion Sugar-Salem meet in Saturday's semifinal. St. Maries and Priest River also remain in state title contention.

2A

Melba, Parma and Nampa Christian remain in the title hunt at Idaho Falls High. Melba defeated Firth and Valley on Friday. The Mustangs face West Side in a semifinal at noon Saturday. Parma and Nampa Christian play in loser-out matches Saturday morning.

1A DIVISION I

Horseshoe Bend won two matches Friday at Kimberly High. The Mustangs face Challis in a semifinal match at noon Saturday.

1A DIVISION II

Garden Valley won twice Friday at Burley High to advance to Saturday's semifinal. The Wolverines face Richfield at noon. Greenleaf Friends Academy also advanced. The Grizzlies play Nezperce in a loser-out match at 10:30 a.m.
